    Sol-Gel Synthesis, Characterization and Study of Photocatalytic Activities of Sr2YBiO6 Nanocrystals

  • Abstract

    Nanosized Sr2YBiO6 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by sol-gel technique. The X-ray diffraction revealed that the material crystallizes in the monoclinic structure and has a complex perovskite structure. Transmission electron microscopy results indicated that the particle sizes are 20?40 nm. The UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectrum analysis confirmed that the optical absorption edge of Sr2YBiO6 is around 351 nm, corresponding to a band gap of ~3.54 eV. This indicates that Sr2YBiO6 might perform well as a photocatalyst in the UV region. Photocatalytic activity of Sr2YBiO6 nanoparticles is examined by the degradation of methylene blue under UV light irradiation.
