  • Abstract

Using steady state fluorescence and dual beam thermal lens technique, the influence of gold nanoparticles concentration on the emission behaviour of fluorescein dye molecule were investigated. Since the past couple of decades there has been a strong interest to tailor the emission characteristics of laser dyes using metal nanoparticles. This kind of tailoring of emission characteristics of a fluorophore by the metallic nanoparticles finds wide applications in diverse areas including bioimaging. This investigation envisages the influence of gold nanoparticles and its concerned concentration on steady state fluorescence of fluorescein dye using thermal lens technique. Green synthesis method was employed for the preparation of gold nanoparticles as it is more facile, ecofriendly and results in monodispersed nanoparticles. Various characterization techniques like absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy were used for the analysis of the samples. In the present paper, we report the decrease of fluorescence quantum yield of fluorescein dye with increase in concentration of gold nanofluid, shows a non radiative energy transfer from fluorescein to gold nanoparticles
