    Structural and Optical Characterization of CdSe/Eu3+/Tb3+ Doped TiO2-ZrO2 Matrices

  • Abstract

    Sol-gel processing offers the most outstanding advantages for mixed oxide systems, in which the chemical homogeneity of the various elements can be controlled down to the atomic level. In the field of materials for optical applications, an increased interest has been shown lately to a special class of composite materials; semiconductor doped glasses. The incorporation of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) within a bulk structure has several advantages over nanoparticles in solution. Semiconductor doped glasses can be used for the fabrication of integrated optical structures, optical circuits with fast switching time, planar channel wave guides, optical modulators, electro-optical switches etc. In this work europium ions, terbium ions and CdSe nanocrystallites are doped in titania-zirconia matrices. The structural properties of the matrices were characterized using TGA, DTA, FTIR and TEM studies. The optical characteri-zations like absorption, emission and excitation of these samples were studied. The RGB emission was also observed from matrix. The color coordinates corresponding to the prominent emissions are determined using a fibre optic spectrometer. White light emission was achieved from titania-zirconia matrix codoped with CdSe nanocrystal and rare earths like europium and terbium
