    Morphological and Structural Investigation of ZnO Nanorods Transformed to ZnO Nanotubes

  • Abstract

    ZnO nanorods and nanotubes were synthesiszed by hydrothermal method. The structure and morphology of the samples were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and FTIR. X-ray diffraction revealed the wurtzite structure of ZnO. The lattice spacing of ZnO nanorods and nanotubes showed a strong lattice contraction effect exists in the ZnO nanorods and nanotubes. The lattice contraction and surface strain were more dominant in ZnO nanotubes compared to ZnO nanorods due to its high quantum confinement effect. FTIR spectrum showed very strong red shift in the vibrational frequencies of ZnO nanotubes due to its high quantum confinement effect and strong surface effect
