    Investigation on the Performance of Eight Channel Wavelength Division Multiplexing System Using Erbium?Doped Fibre Amplifier

  • Abstract

    Advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) are rapidly increasing the amount of available fiber optic bandwidth. The performance of 8 channel wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system with and without Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) was analyzed. The system is designed and simulated using OptSim software to achieve the performance analysis of the system. We analyzed Bit Error Rate (BER) variation with bit rate, fiber length, multiplication factor. Besides the variation of the output power of the system with fiber length at different EDFA gain was also studied. Also the output power was measured by varying the pump power for different fiber length at constant input power of -26dbm. The investigation is based on detailed simulative analysis
