    Inhibition of Aluminum Corrosion by 2-Picolinic Acid and Synergistic Effect of KI in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

  • Abstract

    Corrosion inhibition of aluminium in 0.3 M hydrochloric acid by 2-picolinic acid (2-PA) has been studied by weight loss technique. Picolinic acid was chosen as inhibitor for the corrosion prevention of aluminium metal in HCl. The effect of temperature on inhibition efficiency was studied. The inhibition action of picolinic acid on aluminium metal surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The inhibition is found to act synergistically with KI in controlling corrosion of aluminium. However the inhibition efficiency in the presence and absence of KI is found to increases with increase in the inhibitor concentration and also decreases with increase in the temperature. The corrosion inhibition is also proved by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Tafel polarization and SEM analysis
